Job Description:  General Sales Manager
 
Leadership
v 

Communicating to the employees of the sales department, the dealership’s goals for market leadership, superior customer loyalty, and returns on investment.

 
v 

Creating a work environment that promotes teamwork and cooperation, where sales department personnel can prosper; find rewards in their efforts; and, be continuously motivated and challenged to improve their performance.

 
v 

Promoting the dealerships standards for integrity, ethics, and job performance.


Personnel
v 

Directing the daily activities of the sales department; establishing for sales personnel, objectives for sales, and profits; and, continuously evaluating and monitoring their progress toward achieving these goals.

 
v 

Developing compensation plans that will encourage performance, reward success, and assure that the sales department will achieve its goals for sales, market representation, profits, and customer satisfaction.

 
v 

Staffing the dealership with individuals who are competent, trustworthy, adequately trained for their positions, and motivated to help the dealership achieve its goals and objectives.

 
v 

Submitting to the accounting office on a timely basis, time cards, commission vouchers, employment documents, and all other records necessary to the hiring and compensation of sales department personnel.

 
v 

Assuring that the sales department is in compliance with all local, state, and federal, wage and hour laws, employment laws, and all other government regulations relating to employment, compensation, safety, harassment, and discrimination.


Sales Management
v 

Creating and implementing sales and marketing plans that will assure the dealership is; aggressively seeking new customers and markets; achieving its full sales potential; and, fulfilling its obligations under the terms of its Sales and Service Agreements for superior representation and total customer satisfaction.

 
v 

Assisting the dealer/general manager with the development and maintenance of new and used vehicle inventory and stocking plans that will assure adequate supply while minimizing expense and depreciation.

 
v 

Being accountable for the physical presences and appearance of the new and used inventory and other assets utilized by the sales department; and, maintaining a system of internal controls and operating procedures that will protect these assets from theft, loss, or unnecessary depreciation.

 
v 

Assuring that all purchase agreements, bills of sale, finance contracts, lease agreements, applications for registration, and all other documents necessary to the sale and lease of vehicles are completed accurately and in full compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, and submitted to the accounting office in a proper and timely fashion.

 
v 

Developing annual business plans and expense budgets for the sales department; establishing monthly sales and profit objectives; and, conducting the affairs of the department in a fashion conducive to achieving its sales goals and maximizing the return on the owners’ investment.

 
v 

Assuring that the Sales Department is familiar with and utilizing all available technologies in its pursuit of its sales and profit objectives.


Business Relationships
v 

Assuring that the employees of the sales department conduct their affairs in a manner conducive to good citizenship within the community, and operate within the laws and regulations of all local, state, and federal jurisdictions.

 
v 

Assisting the dealer/general manager with the development and maintenance of relationships and alliances with manufacturers, industry associations, suppliers, and vendors that promote the goodwill of the company and serve its interests best.

 
v 

Assisting the Dealer/General Manager in developing and implementing all policies, procedures, and processes necessary to being recognized for superior customer satisfaction.
